The “Žena / Woman Strakonice” international photography biennale in Strakonice is a significant traditional international photography event which dates back to 1970 and which was re-established in 2011. The contest challenges amateur and professional photographers from throughout the world whose work reflects the topic of women and represents them in all the situations which may occur in the life of a woman.
In the exhibited year, the traditional categories of woman and nude were newly complemented by two open contest categories – colour and monochromatic photography for any photographic theme or genre. 62 awards were given out, including Strakonice Town’s Grand Prix. Traditionally, the biennale is organised under the auspices of the town and Strakonice Cultural Centre, along with the FIAP, IAAP and ČFFU international and national photography associations. This year’s 16th ŽENA / WOMAN STRAKONICE contest is also for the first time being supported by the Photographic Society of America (PSA).
